Alicia Malone is an Australian tv host, author and media personality she is known for being the host of Turner Classic Movies. She has written two books Backwards and in Heels and The Female Gaze.

She began her television career in her native Australia two decades ago, working behind the scenes as a writer, producer, and editor for movie-themed television shows. Her knowledge of film allowed her to work as a host, interviewer, and film critic for television, radio, print, and online.

Malone relocated to Los Angeles in 2011 and has since appeared as a film expert on numerous television channels and programs, including CNN’s ‘The Movies’ documentary series, MSNBC, Access Hollywood, E!, Entertainment Tonight, MTV, and ABC’s 2019 ‘Live from the Red Carpet’ Oscar pre-show.

Malone first auditioned for TCM film streaming service FilmStruck in 2015 and was hired. Malone practiced auditioning for a TCM broadcast channel hosting role by recording Robert Osborne and Ben Mankiewicz’s introductions, then writing out scripts and practicing reading them in front of a camera.

She auditioned for a hosting role on Turner Classic Movies in 2017, and was hired by the network the following January.

Malone has given two separate TEDx talks about the challenges that women face in the film industry. The first was for TEDxSanJuanIsland on December 20, 2015, and was titled #GirlsInFilm. She addressed the underrepresentation of women and girls in the film industry in this talk.

Her second TED talk, delivered on July 6, 2017, was titled Female Directors in Hollywood and the Impact of Movies Made From One Perspective. She gave this TED talk at TEDxBend. She told stories about Hollywood’s history, including how women argued that women needed to be directors so that more than one type of story could be told.
