Chris Gailus is an American journalist, he currently works at Global News as a co-anchors for Global News Hour at 6. He has nearly 30 years of experience and is an Emmy-winning journalist. Prior to joining the station, he was a host and anchor of Good Day New York at WNYW.

The popular Global News Hour is co-hosted by Sophie Lui and Emmy-winning journalist Chris Gailus at 6 on Global BC. For Best Newscast, Large Market, he has won back-to-back Canadian Screen Awards. He was recognized as the nation’s top local news anchor in 2015 by the Canadian Screen Awards. In the same category at the Canada Screen Awards in 2017, Chris was nominated together with co-anchor Sophie Lui.
In 2006, Chris came back to Canada and joined the Global News crew. Prior to that, he served as host and anchor of the early-morning show Good Day New York at WNYW, the city’s Fox news station and, at the time, the most popular locally produced morning show in the Northeastern United States.
Chris has almost 30 years of experience in broadcast journalism and is a proud alumnus of Mount Royal University in Calgary’s Broadcast Journalism Program, where he earned the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence and won the Jimmy Condon Basketball Scholarship.
After earning his degree in 1989, he worked as a reporter in Lethbridge, Alberta, covering municipal and agricultural issues before transitioning to the position of news anchor. He later won a CanPro Award for his efforts as the anchor of the Best Small Market Newscast. He moved to Calgary 7 as one of its primary evening news anchors in 1992 after returning to Calgary as a reporter and anchor of CFCN’s weekend program.
Chris relocated to the United States in 2000 to serve as the morning newscast anchor for the ABC affiliate in Dallas, Texas. He covered important stories like the Columbia space shuttle tragedy and the inquiry that followed, the effects of the September 11th attacks on Dallas, and the movement of American forces from Fort Hood at the start of the Iraq War. He received a nomination for a Katy Award, the top journalism honor in Texas.
His professional high point came in 2005 when he won a New York Regional Emmy Award for “Best Morning Newscast” while anchoring Good Day New York at WNYW, where he had moved on to in 2003.
Chris avidly supports charities such as the B.C. Children’s Hospital, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, and groups that promote the study of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis outside of the newsroom. Chris is honored to sit on the CKNW Kids’ Fund board of directors.
