Emma Kimiläinen Wiki
Kimiläinen made his racing career debut in the Northern European Formula Ford Championship in 2005. She placed sixth in her maiden season, winning a number of rookie accolades along the way. In 2006, she tied for second place in the series with Sami Isohella on points, but lost on count-back. In 2007, she continued to compete in Radicals in Sweden.
The young Finn was subsequently signed by Audi in 2008, and she was given a spot in their Formula Masters series. She finished 10th in the standings while Kevin Magnussen, a future Formula One driver, was her teammate. However, during the 2008 Financial Crisis, Audi reduced her sponsorship, and she had to pay her own way into Formula Palmer Audi in 2009.
With four podium finishes, she finished the season in fifth place overall. When 2009, she took a permanent break from motorsports to establish a family after Audi stopped providing financial assistance for her racing career. For 2010, Kimiläinen had been in touch with an Indy Lights squad, but this relationship was after it was revealed a team sponsor wanted her to produce adult content for them.
She was unexpectedly called up by PWR Racing in 2014 to compete in the entire season of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, being the first woman to compete in the STCC since Nettan Lindgren-Jansson in 1999. She was kept for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, however a neck strain suffered in a crash in the first round in Skövde stopped her from finishing the entire season in 2016. Before declaring plans to race in the Electric GT Championship for 2018—which were later postponed and finally abandoned—she went to the Swedish V8 ThunderCar series for 2017.
She was one of the 18 permanent drivers for the 2019 W Series season. She was well-qualified for the opening round at the Hockenheimring, but a collision with Megan Gilkes reactivated her neck injury and forced her to withdraw from the next two rounds. She made a successful comeback at the Norisring and then completed a grand slam in Assen (pole position, fastest lap, and race win).
In the series finale at Brands Hatch, she would finish second in a race-long battle with Alice Powell, passing Fabienne Wohlwend to move up to fifth in the standings. Kimiläinen returned to the W Series in 2021 after a coronavirus-caused hiatus in 2020 and finished third in the overall standings with a victory at Spa and four other podium finishes.
