Despite holding a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television, my lack of meteorology credentials initially seemed to hinder my prospects in this field. However, a perceptive manager recognized my potential and afforded me the opportunity to deliver weekend weather updates at Fox in Salinas.
Determined to seize this chance, she dedicated myself to learning under the guidance of our chief meteorologist while concurrently pursuing further education in meteorology. Balancing full-time employment in television with my studies, Patel earned her meteorology certificate, along with seals of approval from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association after three and a half years of diligent effort.
This achievement paved the way for her advancement to the primary weekday weather position, which she held for approximately three years before transitioning to ABC7 News in San Francisco in the late 1990s. Initially, Patel served as the weekend morning weather presenter for over seven years, until a significant promotion elevated me to the prime-time weeknight position, where she currently provide the forecast for the 5pm and 11pm slots.
