Heavy rain is expected Sunday evening as a Flood Watch has been issued for the urban corridor extending through the Denver metro and areas south including Colorado Springs. The Cameron Peak and Calwood burn scar areas are included in the Flood Watch which goes into effect Sunday afternoon through the evening. Because of the heavy rain threat the Denver7 weather team is issuing a Weather Action Day beginning late Saturday evening and Sunday.
It was a hot start to the weekend, but a change in the weather is coming. A cold front is moving into Colorado. Highs today will be in the low to upper 80s, with storms and showers likely. Some areas of heavy rain will increase the risk for flash flooding, especially over burn scar areas. The cooler weather will continue early next week with highs staying in the 80s and a chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoons.
