Michael Finney Biography
Michael Finney is an American journalist, he currently works at KGO. He joined ABC7 News in 1991. Finney’s On Your Side reports can be seen at 4, 5 & 6 p.m. on ABC7 News.

ABC7 News hired Finney in 1991. His consumer reporting has won numerous prominent broadcast journalism prizes, including those from the Associated Press, a number of Press Clubs, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Radio Television News Directors Association. His work has also received recognition from local organizations including Consumer Action, The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, and The National Association of Consumer Advocates.
At 4, 5, and 6 p.m., ABC7 News airs Michael’s 7 On Your Side reports. Every Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m., KGO-AM810 broadcasts his “Consumer Talk” radio program. Michael Finney’s Consumer Confidential, his debut book, was one of The Amazon Business list’s top 10 best sellers. The release of his newest book, The Definitive Guide to Bay Area Deals, is planned for the fall of 2012.
In the twenty years since he founded 7 On Your Side at ABC7 News, he has forced product recalls, sent criminals to prison, and given millions of dollars back to consumers. Even many of his closest friends are unaware that Finney covered multiple natural disasters as a young reporter, including the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, the Oakland firestorm, the L.A. riots, and numerous floods, forest fires, and other catastrophes. Because the air space has been blocked off, he claimed it is otherworldly to be on a boat in the thick of a cyclone trying to reach a destroyed Kauai. There is no electricity or lighting present; only the outline of a mountain emerging from the sea. I am aware of how that island seemed to early navigators.
