Rick Folbaum Biography

Rick Folbaum is an American journalist, he is currently a news anchor at WGCL based in Atlanta.  Before he was a freelancer at CNN International and a correspondent for Fox News. On Peachtree TV, Folbaum hosts the CBS46 News at 4, 6, and 11 p.m. and the  News at 9 p.m.

Rick joins CBS46 after working as a CNN International anchor. Prior to that, he worked as the main anchor for CBS O+O WFOR TV in Miami for 5 years. There, Rick anchored hours of live coverage of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida in 2018, texting in real time with a student who was trying to flee the attacker.

In addition, Rick was in charge of reporting on the 2017 shooting rampage at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, for which he was nominated for an Emmy. He presided over CBS Miami’s special coverage of Fidel Castro’s funeral days later as the Cuban exile community in South Florida awoke to the news of the revolutionary leader’s passing while he was on the air.

Rick was one of the first reporters on the site of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in June 2016 and field-anchored his newscasts live from Orlando for several days following that heinous incident. The “Team Coverage” category Emmy went to Rick and his coworkers.

In August 2015, Rick visited Cuba to document the historic reopening of the US embassy in Havana. He came again the following month to discuss Pope Francis’ historic first visit to the country of the islands. For his series of broadcasts highlighting the Holocaust survivors in South Florida, including his profile of Ben Ferencz, the last surviving Nuremberg prosecutor, Rick earned an Emmy in 2017.

Folbaum formerly worked as an anchor and correspondent for Fox News Channel before joining CBS4. Over the course of his 17 years with the network, Rick anchored and covered breaking news events like the US Airways Flight 1549 “Miracle on the Hudson” landing in 2009, the Columbia space shuttle explosion in 2003, and the American invasion of Iraq. On the morning of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he filed a report from Lower Manhattan.

He co-anchored every segment of FoxNews.com’s live election coverage in 2012, including the debates, party conventions, and election night. In 2008, he reported live from Pope Benedict’s papal liturgy at Yankee Stadium and anchored coverage of the papal conclaves that elected Popes Benedict and Francis.

Folbaum joined the network at its inception in 1996 as one of the network’s first anchors. From 1998 to 2000, Rick worked as a foreign correspondent based in London, spending nearly two years covering Europe and the Middle East. He provided in-depth coverage of the NATO-led war in Kosovo, border rocket attacks on Israel, the Northern Ireland peace process, Prince Edward’s wedding, and the Princess Diana death investigation.

He served three years as an anchor at FOX 5 WNYW in New York while he was employed by FOX. He received an Emmy there in 2008 for his coverage of the Lower Manhattan 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. Folbaum covered the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. Rick was a writer and producer at MSNBC before he joined FOX.

Early in his career, he worked in the newsrooms of WTXF TV in Philadelphia and WOR AM in New York City, where he covered the 1993 first World Trade Center attack. His first on-air position was at KSPN FM Radio in Aspen, Colorado, where he covered a large fire on Storm King Mountain that claimed the lives of 19 firemen and earned an AP award in 1994.
