He was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama three times: in 2007, 2008, and 2010. In 2010, he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series.
From October 1, 2006, until September 22, 2013, Dexter was an American crime drama television series that aired on Showtime. The series is set in Miami and follows Dexter Morgan, a forensic technician for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department who also has a secret life as a vigilante serial killer, hunting down murderers who have not been adequately punished by the justice system due to corruption or legal technicalities.

Hall began dating Jennifer Carpenter, his Dexter co-star. They married on New Year’s Eve 2008 in California and made their first public appearance as a married couple in January 2009 at the 66th Golden Globe Awards. Hall and Carpenter issued a statement in December 2010 saying that they had filed for divorce after being separated “for some time.” The divorce was granted in December 2011 because to irreconcilable reasons; nonetheless, the two remain close friends.
