She worked as an intern at a cable station in Columbus, Ohio, after which she accepted a job for a brief period at radio station WIPS in Ticonderoga, New York. She then accepted a job as a general assignment reporter for Albany, New York-based WNYT television, where she quickly rose to become the weekend anchor and then the weekly co-anchor.
She worked for WNYT for 17 years. In 1997, she received a New York Emmy Award for her coverage of the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. Jansing joined NBC News in June 1998, at which point she began to use her surname Jansing professionally rather than her maiden name Kapostasy, which she had previously used. She has since anchored and reported for MSNBC and served as a substitute anchor for The Today Show and NBC Nightly News on Sunday.
Chris Jansing previously hosted Jansing and Company on MSNBC weekdays at 10 a.m., with Richard Lui serving as a correspondent and substitute anchor. Jansing left the show on June 13, 2014, to become NBC’s Senior White House Correspondent.
Jansing was named senior national correspondent for MSNBC on June 1, 2017. Jansing would continue to anchor the network’s breaking news coverage alongside Brian Williams, as well as provide coverage from the White House and Capitol Hill, as part of the role.
