Before he joined the network Diamond earned his journalism as a reporter and news editor at the GW Hatchet, an independent student newspaper of George Washington University.

Diamond gained experience in journalism at the George Washington University’s independent student newspaper, the GW Hatchet, where he worked as a writer and news editor before joining CNN.
After learning that university officials had misrepresented the school’s financial aid policy, he broke a major news story there. He received a Pinnacle Award from the College Media Association and the Institute on Political Journalism’s Collegiate Journalism Award for that piece.
