As the first female anchor of a daily network newscast in Canadian history, Rinaldo made history when she was elevated to News Anchor of CANADA AM in 1980. Rinaldo was given the role of Reporter-at-Large for CANADA AM in 1977, which required her to travel frequently to places including Cape Breton, the Middle East, and Vancouver. In 1976, Rinaldo began working for CANADA AM as a story producer with a focus on provincial and federal politics.
Rinaldo celebrated 45 years with CTV in May 2018. One week after receiving her Honours B.A. in Fine Arts from York University, Rinaldo entered the network for the first time on May 6, 1973. Rinaldo advanced quickly in that first year from Junior Secretary to Production Secretary to Production Manager before joining W5 as a researcher. With the W5 crew, Rinaldo traveled to New York City in 1975 to work on the journalism award-winning documentary The Bankruptcy of New York. She is fluent in English.
The stories Rinaldo has written have gained her widespread acclaim and nominations for numerous important awards. For her outstanding contributions to broadcast journalism, she received the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
For W5’s “In Their Footsteps,” Rinaldo won the 2017 RTDNA Dave Rogers National Award for Best Long Feature. She has won the Trina McQueen Award three times for the best television news information program, having done so in 2011 and 2017 for the W5 programs “Leave it to Bieber” and “Nightmare on Quebec Street” and “Lifetime Penalty/The Ringmaster.”
The Durham Regional Police honored Rinaldo for W5’s “Predator’s Playground” in 2014 with a special presentation. The 2005 Canadian Veterinary Award for the film “Never Give Up” and the 2001 Canadian Association of Journalism Award for Best Overall Newscast, which she shared alongside Lloyd Robertson, are just two of the many additional honors she has received.
