Dan Wootton is a New Zealand and British journalist, he is known for working for the News of The World. He previously worked for News of the World in 2007. He began working for The Sun on Sunday in 2013. Wootton began working for The Sun in February 2016, when Victoria Newton was the editor in charge.

Wootton, a New Zealand native, initiated his journalism career writing an entertainment column for The Dominion Post in Wellington. After relocating to the UK at 21, he contributed to trade journals and eventually secured a role at Broadcast magazine.
In February 2007, Wootton joined News of the World TV, progressing to TV editor in November 2007, show-business editor in November 2008, and later becoming a columnist and feature writer for the Daily Mail. He served as editor-at-large for Now magazine until its closure in July 2011.
During the 2012 Leveson Inquiry on the News International phone hacking incident, Wootton denied unauthorized publishing of stories obtained through phone hacking while at News of the World.
Wootton commenced his association with The Sun in 2013, introducing a Sunday column. By 2014, he attained the role of assistant editor (showbiz and TV) and continued as editor of the Bizarre section. His accolades include winning the British Press Awards in 2010, 2013, and 2018 as “Showbiz reporter of the year.”
In addition to his print contributions, Wootton appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live and served as an entertainment reporter on ITV’s morning show Lorraine from 2011 to 2019.
In 2015, Wootton faced criticism for his Sun article “Hollywood HIV Panic,” labeled “vile” by HIV policy expert Lisa Power. The report was also condemned by The BMJ and deemed “irresponsible” by the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Notably, Wootton broke the Megxit story in The Sun on January 8, 2020. Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed their resignation from royal duties within hours. Despite warnings from royal officials, Wootton claimed to have notified the couple’s spokeswoman ten days prior to publication.
