Amy Westervelt Wiki

Westervelt’s work has mostly been devoted to reporting on environmental concerns, as well as feminism and the economy. As her career progressed, she discovered more connections between these three areas. Westervelt contributed to InsideClimate News in 2009 and 2010.

From 2011 to 2013, she covered green technology for Forbes, writing about companies, regulations, and environmental issues. During this time, she published two travel guides: Michigan’s Upper Peninsula: Great Destinations (2008) and Explorer’s Guide Upper Peninsula (2010). (2012).

From 2014 until 2018, Westervelt was a contributor at The Guardian. She was also a co-founder of Climate Confidential between 2014 and 2016, which released investigative investigations on environmental issues.

In 2018, Seal Press, now an imprint of Basic Books, published her book about working mothers, Forget Having It All. She frequently discussed her own motherhood and how she sought resources in her neighborhood while raising her son in interviews for the book.

“It’s huge to have boys babysit. Allowing boys to be maternal in many ways is also something I believe in. When my son was about 4 or 5, he truly wanted a baby doll, and so many people smashed his wish. They simply said, ‘No, boys don’t have baby dolls,’ and I simply said, ‘OK.’ We now understand why men aren’t excellent with children. ‘Wow,’ “In 2018, she told WBUR.

Westervelt developed the Critical Frequency podcast network, which is home to 14 podcasts, including Drilled, a show about climate change denial that Westervelt reports and hosts. In 2019, Critical Frequency was a launch partner for Supporting Cast, Slate’s subscription and membership podcast platform.

Drilled took home a 2019 Online News Association Online Journalism Award for digital audio storytelling excellence. “Drilled has been downloaded over a million times in the months after its release; it has been praised by The New Yorker, Esquire, and New Scientist; and it has been mentioned on the floor of the United States Senate,” according to the prize citation.

Westervelt’s Drilled News site launched the Climate & COVID-19 Policy Tracker in April 2020, an ongoing news feature documenting many climate and energy-related regulation rollbacks and suspensions, fossil fuel lease sales, financial relief offered to the fossil fuel industry, and other related moves taken by the Trump administration and some state governments in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
