Curry began her career as an intern for KTVL in 1978. She rose through the ranks to become the station’s first female news reporter. In 1980, she began working as a reporter and anchor for NBC station KGW in Portland. Curry later moved to Los Angeles to work as a reporter for KCBS-TV.
She began her career with NBC News in 1990, first as a Chicago correspondent for the network, then as the host of NBC News at Sunrise from 1991 to 1996. Curry previously worked as a replacement news anchor for Matt Lauer at Today from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 2011, she was a news anchor for Today.
On June 24, 2005, she was named co-host of Dateline NBC alongside Stone Phillips; after Phillips left on July 2, 2007, she took over as lead anchor until she replaced Meredith Vieira on Today in 2011. She was the primary substitute on NBC Nightly News from 2005 to 2011.
Curry was widely reported to have been replaced as Today co-host in June 2012. Curry announced his departure from NBC News in 2015. Curry has been hosting TNT/Chasing TBS’s the Cure since August 2019. In 1978, she began her television career as an intern at KTVL in Medford, Oregon. Curry worked as a cocktail waitress in college.
