Kling is WKYC’s 3News Chief Meteorologist and 5PM Anchor. Betsy was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, and her hometown, Copley, is in Summit County, just west of Akron. She attended Bowling Green State University after graduating from Copley High School, where she earned a journalism degree with a minor in meteorology.
She completed the remainder of her meteorology coursework at Mississippi State University. Betsy worked in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Jacksonville, Florida, before coming home in 2003. She became Cleveland’s first female Chief Meteorologist in 2008.
Betsy is one of a small number of women in the country who have earned the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist accreditation, as well as the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval . Betsy was named National Weather Association 2021 Broadcaster of the Year and is the organization’s only Member of the Year twice.
