Thomson interviewed some of the country’s most beloved musicians, athletes, actors, authors, politicians, and dignitaries during her time on Canada’s most-watched morning show, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Hilary Clinton, and Donald Trump.
Thomson landed the first Canadian television interview at Rideau Hall with current Governor General David Johnston and his wife. Thomson has also interviewed a slew of A-list celebrities, including Barbara Walters, Jane Fonda, and Bradley Cooper, to name a few.
She is illustrious, nearly 30-year career has taken her all over the world, including London, England during the Royal Wedding build-up in April 2011 to film a series for CANADA AM, Vancouver to co-host CTV’s OLYMPIC MORNING program during Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympic Games, across Canada for numerous federal, provincial, and municipal elections, and Washington, D.C. for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Thomson has also written for CTV’s W5, Canada’s most-watched current affairs and documentary series.
Thomson received the Humanitarian Award from the Gemini Awards, now known as the Canadian Screen Awards, in 2006. In June 2009, she was also appointed as the National Ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards by the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward.
Thomson was named co-host of CANADA AM in 2003, marking his return to CTV after six years as anchor of the evening newscast at Global Toronto. Thomson previously worked for CTV Toronto as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor for seven years. Thomson’s career in radio began in 1987, after graduating from Seneca College’s Radio and Television Broadcasting program.
She remained with the network after Canada AM was canceled in 2016. Thomson was awarded the Order of Canada in 2019 for “outstanding contributions to Canada’s broadcasting industry and volunteerism.”
