Bryan Alvarez Wiki

Alvarez and his friends founded the Youth Wrestling Foundation, a backyard wrestling promotion. Years later, Alvarez began working as a referee for local independent shows, which led to his return to wrestling when he filled in for another wrestler who was unable to attend an event. Following that, Alvarez began wrestling more frequently, initially for free.

Alvarez received his first-degree black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu from Pedro Sauer and Pedro Sauer black belt Justin Angelos. He is the current head instructor of the adult Gracie Jiu-Jitsu program at Evergreen Karate and Jiu-Jitsu in Bothell, Washington.

A fundraiser was held, and Alvarez stated that if the amount raised reached $400, he would wrestle one more time with a friend and former professional wrestler Vince Verhei. He also promised a special DVD to anyone who donated at least $25.

The goal was met and exceeded, with donations ranging from one cent to $250, and the scheduled match was broadcast on YouTube on September 17, 2006.

In the mid-1990s, Alvarez ran his own 900-number wrestling hotline through Figure Four Weekly before switching to Meltzer’s 900-number Wrestling Observer Hotline. Meltzer initially hired Alvarez to take calls for him, but after receiving an offer to do a show for eYada, he hired him as a co-host in 1999.

New York City’s first ever live streaming Internet radio station. The original Wrestling Observer Live was the most-listened-to show on the network and the last show to air before the station went out of business. Meltzer invited him to be a co-host on the first few episodes of Wrestling Observer Live on Eyada to bounce news stories off of at the start of the show.

In June 2005, Alvarez launched Figure Four Online, a subscription website primarily run by himself and his brother-in-law Tony Leder. Alvarez and Vince Verhei produce their own Internet podcast, The Bryan and Vinny Show, several times a week, where they review professional wrestling and mixed martial arts (MMA) programming in an observational comedic style similar to that found in the newsletter.
