Cari Champion is an American journalist, she is currently working as the host of The Cari Champion Show on Amazon Prime. Before joining the network she worked at ESPN2 as an anchor and also at the Tennis Channel.

Champion began her career in broadcasting at various television stations. For her first reporting job, she relocated to West Virginia. She later stated of her time there: “I was a one-man band with a camera and a tripod, which was terrible.
She wrote for the Daily Bruin and was inspired to pursue a career in journalism by UCLA alumni such as Matea Gold of the Washington Post, who was the student newspaper’s editor in chief. Champion was drawn to journalism with the intention of changing negative stereotypes about African Americans:
But I enjoyed it because it was something I wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to be a journalist.” She worked as a reporter for the Orange County Newschannel in Santa Ana, California before moving to WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida in 2002.
Champion moved to Florida and began covering news such as human interest stories and the state’s devastating hurricanes. She developed an interest in tennis while working as a reporter there, after covering players such as Venus and Serena Williams: “They increased my enthusiasm for the sport.
They made tennis accessible to a wide range of people.” She went on to audition for the Tennis Channel’s burgeoning news department, where she was one of three women chosen from a pool of more than fifty applicants. She became a member of the network in 2009.
Champion joined ESPN as the new host of ESPN2’s live debate show First Take on October 1, 2012. She beat out Heidi Watney and Jemele Hill for the position. She moderated debates between sports pundits Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith, whom she described as having “the biggest, strongest personalities in the building” as the show’s host.
Champion made her ESPN journalistic debut on November 4, 2014, when she profiled and interviewed American football quarterback Cam Newton in an E:60 segment after pitching story ideas to the network.
Champion will host The Cari Champion Show on Amazon Prime Video in 2022, according to Embassy Row. Champion made her television debut on The Cari Champion Show on November 14, 2022.
