He worked as a correspondent for many CNBC programs, including Business Center, and as a special correspondent for Fox X-press on Fox News from 1999 until 2002. Carl worked as a co-anchor for CNBC’s early-morning show, Wake Up Call, before joining NBC. Quintanilla began co-hosting Squawk Box on December 19, 2005.

Carl had previously asked Allen Stanford, afterwards recognized as the mastermind behind a “huge Ponzi scheme,” how it felt to be a billionaire on his show. Carl covered the weekday and weekend versions of NBC Nightly News from 2010 to September 2015, filling in for hosts Brian Williams and Lester Holt when they were on assignment or traveling. He also co-hosted Today as a substitute.
