In 1999, Greenleaf began her career as an airborne traffic reporter for San Francisco’s KGO (AM) radio. The following year, she relocated back to the East Coast and began covering traffic for NY1 before switching to news coverage for Queens, New York’s WRNN-TV. On the Prowl with Cat Greenleaf, a weekly lifestyle series produced by Greenleaf, was commissioned by NYC Media.
She relocated to WNBC and began working there as a features reporter, mostly for Today in New York and the 11 O’clock News. Her advertisements were broadcast on local stations across the country, the Weekend Today Show, and the New York Non-Stop channel.
