Rob Parker’s SportsRap in Detroit hired Haynes for his first television sports reporting position in 2005. Later, in 2006, he served as a reporter and sports anchor at Lansing, Michigan-based ABC affiliate WLAJ. He covered high school athletics, the Michigan State Spartans, the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Tigers.
In 2007, Haynes also worked at Alpena, Michigan’s WBKB-TV, a CBS affiliate. He later, worked as a sports anchor and reporter for KGBT-TV in Harlingen, Texas, from 2007 until 2010. He won the 2008 Texas AP Sportscaster of the Year award and the 2008 and 2009 Rio Grande Valley Sports Broadcaster of the Year awards during his three years at KGBT.
From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a sports anchor and reporter on Maximum Sports for KABB in San Antonio, Texas. Haynes worked at KABB and received two broadcaster Emmy nominations. He also worked for KMYS as a sideline reporter for the high school football program Thursday Night Lights.
From 2012 to 2013, he worked as a sports anchor and reporter for the Boston, Massachusetts-based, now-defunct NBC affiliate WHDH. In 2013, he worked as a sports anchor for Al Jazeera America in New York.
After that, Haynes joined ESPN and made his SportsCenter debut on March 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM ET. “Suit-it or Boot-it,” “SC Vocal Point,” and “Sunday’s Best” are just a few of the segments he came up with. Haynes also made an appearance on NBA Tonight and SportsCenter’s Top Plays of the Month. The 26th of April 2017 saw his dismissal from ESPN. Haynes began working at WUSA in August 2017, a CBS station in Washington, D.C. owned by Tegna.
