David Common Biography
David Common is a Canadian journalist, he is currently working as a correspondent and anchor for CBC News. He also co-hosts consumer affairs newsmagazine Marketplace with Asha Tomlinson. Common has worked for both CBC News and CTV News. He has won numerous honors and was twice nominated for a Gemini Award in the Best Reportage category.

He was moved to New York in 2009, where he served as the CBC’s reporter while also covering the 65th anniversary celebrations for VE Day in the Netherlands and the 2010 Haiti catastrophe. Common has contributed to reporting on conflicts in Haiti, Afghanistan, and Iraq as well as from all throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. For several years in the 2010s, he served as the primary weekday anchor of World Report on CBC Radio One.
He served as a guest host for a number of weeks on Metro Morning, CBC Radio’s regional morning program on CBLA-FM in Toronto, during the COVID-19 outbreak in that country.
He has traveled to every province and territory while on assignment and has been sent to more than 75 different countries to cover a wide range of subjects. David has spent time underground in a submerged submarine on the Korean Peninsula and onboard a Canadian icebreaker in the Arctic in search of the tragic Franklin expedition. Additionally, he has covered the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the Canadian Navy’s standoff with pirates off the coast of Somalia. Elmo interviewed him for Sesame Street as well.
