Swain began working for the CBC’s Winnipeg station CBWT in 1990. She began as a reporter for the local news program 24 Hours and quickly rose to national prominence. Swain’s work on 24 Hours was recognized in 2000 when she received the first of three Gemini Awards for Best News Anchor.

Her investigation into how Canadian post-secondary institutions handle allegations of assault on campus resulted in legislation changes in several provinces and awards for Diana and her team.

Her groundbreaking Scouts investigation In 2012, Canada received the first-ever Canadian Hilman prize, as well as the Canadian Bar Association’s Prix Justica award.

Diana’s reporting for CBC News has included stories about international money laundering, sexism in the airline industry, and the use of force by Canadian police departments. She has also covered three Olympics, including Beijing in 2008, Sochi in 2014, and Pyeongchang in 2018.
