Walker claims that the success of his “5 Second Movies” edits was the catalyst for his rise to internet fame. Walker has stated that the character of the Nostalgia Critic is primarily inspired by Daffy Duck and the Queen of Hearts, as well as comedians Lewis Black, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Murray.
His reviews gained popularity, but he was forced to remove the video series from YouTube in April 2008 due to copyright issues and infringement complaints from ’20th Century Fox’ and ‘Lionsgate,’ and he was forced to shift to his own independent website called ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.
During the Great Recession of 2008-2009, Walker relocated his skits from YouTube to the independent site That Guy With the Glasses, later renamed Channel Awesome, with videos hosted on Blip.tv.
Walker is now a full-time content creator and employee of Channel Awesome in Chicago, where he reports to CEO Mike Michaud.
