Elaine Lui is a Canadian media personality and reporter, she is currently the anchor on CTV’s etalk, and also a co-host of the daily talk series The Social.

Lui formerly worked in non-profit fundraising. She had been living in Vancouver and working at the University of British Columbia when she was called back to Toronto to care for her mother, who required a kidney transplant. She subsequently went to work for Covenant House, which provides homeless shelter and services.
She founded LaineyGossip.com after sending an email to two pals to keep them up to date on celebrity news. Her subscriber list immediately expanded, and she began blogging. She left Covenant House in 2006 to devote her whole attention to her blog. Lui was hired by etalk, CTV’s Canadian entertainment newsmagazine, in 2006.
Lui has covered the Oscars, Super Bowl, JUNO Awards, Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and MuchMusic Video Awards since joining etalk (MMVAs).
She co-hosted The Social with Melissa Grelo, Cynthia Loyst, and Traci Melchor on September 2, 2013. The show airs on CTV every day at 1 p.m. Lui took part in Canada Reads 2015, where she pushed for Raziel Reid’s work When Everything Feels Like a Movie.

Her father eventually got steady work as an accountant. Lui’s parents split when she was six years old, and her mother relocated to Hong Kong. Lui spent many summers visiting her mother in Hong Kong. When she was 16, her parents reconciled.
