As the then-senior White House Correspondent, “20/20” and “This Week” Anchor Sam Donaldson’s assistant, Riviera joined ABC News in 1999. She worked as an associate producer for news coverage on September 11, 2001, and she reported from the scene as the twin towers came down. She proceeded to cover the New York Fire Department as a member of the ABC News reporting crew at ground zero.
Riviera was hired as an off-air reporter at the UN in 2002, where she covered the International Atomic Energy Association and Security Council discussions before to the US war of Iraq. She traveled to Baghdad in 2003, where she then spent time in Fallujah with the 3rd Infantry Division.
Riviera joined ABC News’ political team in 2004 and was assigned to the John Edwards campaign to cover the 2004 Presidential Election. She was appointed the New York reporter for Newsone, an ABC News affiliate news service, in 2005. She traveled extensively while working for Newsone, reporting on a variety of news issues, from Hurricane Katrina to the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.
She relocated to London in 2006 and began reporting on Europe and the Middle East for all ABC News platforms. She also frequently featured as a pundit for the BBC on American politics and current events.
She received numerous honors in 2017 for her work examining child sex trafficking in her series Daughters for Sale. She covered Muslim families in North Carolina earlier this year following President Trump’s travel ban.
