James Rolfe Biography
James Rolfe is an American YouTuber, actor and filmmaker, he is known for making his retrogaming web series The Angry Video Game Nerd. He began his reviews in 2006 and is considered one of pioneer of internet gaming videos.

Rolfe began filming short films in 1989 and continued to do so until the mid-1990s. For a few of his early films, he used Mario Paint. He eventually enrolled in hand-drawn animation classes at a university. His early films lacked scripts and rehearsal.
Rolfe’s career did not take off until May 2004, when he released “Bad NES Games,” a 5-minute short review of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest.
His character’s name was changed from “The Angry Nintendo Nerd” to “The Angry Video Game Nerd” to avoid trademark issues and because he began reviewing games on other consoles.
Rolfe had planned to keep his videos private, but his friend and collaborator, Mike Matei, persuaded him to post them on April 6, 2006, to a YouTube channel called “JamesNintendoNerd” (now called Cinemassacre), which Matei created and managed for him.
Rolfe’s character first gained popularity when his review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles went viral on YouTube. His videos were also shared on GameTrailers and ScrewAttack, where they received 30 million views per month. As of September 2019, he had over 3 million subscribers.
Rolfe’s Nerd character rose to prominence as a result of a fictional feud with fellow YouTuber Doug Walker’s Nostalgia Critic character. The Critic launched a satirical attack in the first video, prompting a response from the Nerd.
