Jay Williams is an American sports journalist, he is known for working at ESPN where he features on ESPN’s NBA Countdown program. He is noted for being a former basketball player, he played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team and professionally for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA.

After beginning his career with ESPN as a commentator in 2003, Williams was hired as a full-time studio and game analyst in 2008. Williams began working as an analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay at the beginning of the 2014–15 basketball season. College GameDay is a well-liked Saturday morning and evening college basketball program that is derived from the Saturday Primetime game-of-the-week telecasts.
Williams worked as an analyst for CBS College Sports Network in 2007 before joining ESPN, primarily covering the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. He had previously contributed to North Carolina’s Fox Sports Radio 99.9 The Fan.
As a freshman, he averaged double figures, which helped him win the ACC Rookie of the Year honor in 2000 and be named to the first team of All-America players.
He broke numerous school and NCAA records during his second year with the Blue Devils. He surpassed Dick Groat’s 49-year-old record for the most points in a season with 841 points and a 25.7 ppg average. Williams also tried 66 3-pointers, which set a new NCAA Tournament record.
Williams was selected by Chicago in the second round of the NBA Draft in 2002, just behind No. 1 pick Yao Ming. He started 54 of the Bulls’ 75 games that season.
Williams made one of the most memorable performances of his rookie season when he recorded a triple-double against his local team, the New Jersey Nets. He also participated in the 2002 FIBA World Championship for the United States National Team.
He is a successful businessperson and public speaker, serves as the CEO and National Director of Special Events for the Rising Stars Youth Foundation, which uses basketball as a tool to promote education and offer academic and financial support to participants.
He is a voting member of the John Wooden Awards Committee, serves on the board of USA Basketball, is a member of the NBA Retired Players Association, and has served as the spokesperson for Durham, North Carolina’s Athletic Advantage, a facility for sports physical rehabilitation and performance enhancement.
