He joined the network in 2002 as a production assistant, made his on-screen debut in 2003 as a correspondent for The O’Reilly Factor, where he conducted his trademark man-on-the-street interviews on a range of subjects, from politics to pop culture, in a segment known as Watters’ World and collaborated on investigative stories with the show’s staff.
He was appointed the sole host of Watters’ World in January 2017, expanding the well-liked segment to an hour-long show. For the whole of its existence, Watters’ World held the top spot in the 8 PM/ET Saturday night timeslot, averaging approximately 1.9 million viewers, the most of any weekend program. During the course of the show, Watters did important interviews with a number of people, including Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports and former president Donald Trump.
In April 2017, he was subsequently appointed as a co-host of The Five. The Five’s powerhouse roundtable ensemble, which Watters co-hosts with Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino, Judge Jeanine Pirro, and a rotating cast of Harold Ford, Geraldo Rivera, and Jessica Tarlov in the liberal seat, has established itself as early evening appointment television for millions of viewers as the top show at 5 PM/ET for the past ten years. Watters is well-known for his “Mom Texts” segment, in which he displays the amusing text messages his liberal mother sends him while he is on the air.
With 3.3 million total viewers and 481,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic, The Five was the most popular program on cable news for the fourth quarter of 2021. This was the first time in cable news history that a non-primetime program accomplished this milestone for the entire quarter. With 3.1 million total viewers and a 435,000 average in the 25-54 age range, The Five already set records in October 2021, winning the entire month for the first time ever.
