Abdo began her broadcasting career at the German international news network Deutsche Welle in 2005 after completing an internship there in the division of foreign languages. She served as a production assistant for Goal! The Bundesliga Magazine in 2006–2007, and from that time until 2009, she also presented sports news for Deutsche Welle.
Later, she relocated to CNN, where she was the daily host of the “World Sports” program. Additionally, she was a CNN feature show host. Abdo left CNN to work for Sky Sport News HD in Germany, where she served as the network’s lead anchor and face.
Abdo joined the network to serve as its public face and was actively involved in the creation of its coverage, formats, and programming. Abdo relocated to the UK to work for Sky Sports, where she presented Sky Sports News, European Football, Transfer Deadline Day, and Pay Per View Boxing events.
She was given a loan by Sky Sports to Fox Sports in 2015 so that he could host the network’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup. Later, Abdo accepted the network’s permanent offer to go to the US to host their coverage of the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, FA Cup, and Bundesliga. She served as the host for the UEFA Europa League group stage draw in Monaco on three separate occasions.
She hosts Fox’s Premier Boxing Champions, including a regular studio show called “Inside PBC Boxing” and fight night coverage, after joining Fox. Abdo signed a contract to anchor Champions League programming on TNT from Turner’s Atlanta studios after Fox lost the rights to the competition to Turner.
Laureus World Sports Awards and the FIFA Ballon d’Or are two other events that Abdo frequently hosted and for which she is well known. She conversed in four languages with visitors and candidates at the 2014 FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony. She also served as the 2015 FIFA Ballon d’Or host.
