Kay Burley Biography
Kay Burley is a British journalist and writer she currently works at Sky News. She hosts her own program with her own name. Burley has previously worked at BBC Local Radio, Tyne Tees Television, and TV-am.
Kay Burley Career
Before joining TV-am in 1985 as a reporter and sporadic newsreader, Burley held positions at Tyne Tees Television and BBC local radio. She took over for Caroline Righton and covered for Anne Diamond during their maternity leaves starting in 1987, presenting TV-opening am’s hour.
Andrew Neil hired Burley to work for Sky Television, where she helped launch the Sky One Entertainment Channel in November 1988 with her own film, The Satellite Revolution. In 1988, she transferred to the nascent Sky News.
Burleywas a member of the crew who broke the news of Diana, Princess of Wales’s passing on Sunday, August 31, 1997, just after 5 a.m. on Sky. Shortly after the first tower was damaged, she broke the first breaking news of the September 11 attacks in the UK. After the tsunami that followed the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, she hosted Sky News coverage from Sri Lanka.
She had a significant role in Sky News’ 2005 coverage of the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles as well as the general election. She served as the face of the 2013 coverage of Prince George of Cambridge’s birth.
Burley occasionally contributes to the tabloid Sunday Mirror, and in the summer of 2006, he made sporadic appearances on the newscasts of Channel 5. She joined London talk radio station LBC 97.3 on March 23, 2014, along with The Sun’s managing editor Stig Abell, to broadcast a show from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sundays. She has filled in for Iain Dale on his Sunday Politics show.
Burley competed in the second season of the ITV reality competition Dancing on Ice, which premiered on January 20, 2007. In honor of her mother, who had passed away from breast cancer, she skated for MacMillan Cancer Care.
She donated the charity her appearance fee. Burley and her partner, Fred Palascak, were eliminated from the competition in the fifth week after taking on Clare Buckfield and Andrei Lipanov, an actress. In 2018, she made an appearance on Celebrity Hunted’s second season. The Kay Burley Show, Kay Burley’s own show on Sky News, was announced to debut in September 2018.
