Lobo captained the squad her final year as the University of Connecticut finished the 1995 campaign undefeated. The Huskies went 35-0 that year after going unbeaten in 28 games during the regular season and defeating Tennessee in the NCAA Final.
Off the court, Lobo received other honors as well. She won several awards in 1995, including the ESPY for Outstanding Female Athlete, NCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, Woman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation, and Female Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press. Lobo was recognized as a Rhodes Scholar candidate, the 1995 Women’s Basketball Academic All-America Player of the Year, and the Co-Academic All-America Player for all University Division teams.
In June 2008, Lobo was inducted into the Academic All-America Hall of Fame by the College Sports Information Directors of America for her remarkable work as a student-athlete both in and out of the classroom.
In Knoxville, Tennessee, Lobo was admitted in 2010 to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inducted Lobo in 2017.
Lobo and her mother RuthAnn collaborated in 1996 on a book entitled The Home Team: Of Mothers, Daughters, and American Champions. The book covers Lobo’s career as well as her late mother’s battle with breast cancer. She also contributed a short story to an anthology entitled 33 Things Every Girl Should Know.
