She worked as a writer and producer in Toronto for several years before returning to reporting in the late 1990s to cover the economy. She then moved to Ottawa, where she spent a decade covering the end of Liberal dominance, the turbulent minority government era, and the birth and rise of Stephen Harper’s conservative government.
She learned about Canada firsthand when she joined the CBC as a national summer trainee in 1985. To get her out of Central Canada, she was quickly sent west, where she worked for several years in Saskatoon and Calgary. She went to Halifax to balance things out and honed her love of political reporting. This resulted in a posting in Montreal about the Meech Lake turbulence.
