Clark was the China Bureau Chief for CTV in the early 1980s. He was among the first reporters to cover the Ethiopian famine in 1984, was in Berlin to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and was the only Canadian reporter in Yugoslavia when NATO launched an aerial war against Serbia in 1999.

He was named Global Television Network’s chief political correspondent on September 1, 2011. He was the first host of the network’s Sunday morning political talk show The West Block in this capacity. Clark announced his retirement from Global News on January 1, 2017, capping off a 40-year career in journalism.

Clark became the Chair of Public Affairs and Communications at Global Public Affairs, Canada’s largest privately owned public affairs firm, on January 9, 2017.
