Ripley, a journalist with over 21 years of experience, has visited North Korea 19 times since 2014, more than any other American television correspondent. He has exclusively reported from Pyongyang following missile launches and nuclear tests, and he was the only American journalist in North Korea when American prisoner Otto Warmbier was released just days before his death in 2017.
Ripley has led CNN’s recent coverage of Taiwan, obtaining an exclusive interview with President Tsai Ing-wen and reporting on the island’s rising tensions with Beijing. He has also written extensively about Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic crisis, landing an exclusive interview with acting President Wickremesinghe in 2022.
