Alex Berenson is an American writer, he is known for working as a reporter for The New York Times. He has also has authored several thriller novels.

In June 1994, Berenson began working as a business writer for The Denver Post. He left the Post in August 1996 to work for Jim Cramer’s financial news website TheStreet. As a business investigative reporter, Berenson joined The New York Times in December 1999.
Berenson reported for the Times on the occupation of Iraq in the fall of 2003 and the summer of 2004. He then focused on concerns with harmful pharmaceuticals while reporting on the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
Berenson left the Times in 2010 to focus solely on writing novels. Together with his forensic psychiatrist wife Jacqueline, he resides in Garrison, New York. John Wells, a CIA operative, is the main character in all 12 of his spy novels. His debut book, The Faithful Spy, which was published in April 2006, was recognized with an Edgar Award for outstanding American novelist’s debut.
In his book Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence, published in 2019, Berenson makes the case that marijuana use is a factor in violent crime and psychotic disorders. The New Yorker and Mother Jones gave the book favorable publicity for what some considered its disturbing facts.
Early on in the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Berenson vociferously contended that the public and the media were exaggerating the threat posed by the new virus, that it posed little harm to young Americans, and that it was being utilized as a pretext for government overreach. Many public health professionals have disputed his assertions.
Due to multiple violations of its COVID-19 misinformation policy, Twitter permanently suspended Berenson’s account on August 28, 2021. However, after Berenson sued in December 2021 to demand his account be restored, Twitter restored Berenson’s account in early summer 2022 in a “mutually acceptable resolution”.
