In 2016, Lapwood was hired as Pembroke College’s director of music. She assumed her post as Director of Music at Oxford or Cambridge university college at the age of 21, making her the youngest individual to occupy the role. She leads the chapel choir in her capacity as Director of Music, and in 2020 she became the College’s youngest Bye-Fellow in history.
For girls from neighborhood schools aged 11 to 18, Lapwood established the Pembroke College Girls’ Choir in 2018. The choir leads Evensong every week during the academic year. She also oversees the annual Cambridge Organ Experience for Girls. She started the Pembroke College Bach-a-thon in 2017, initially to generate money for the Zambia tour of the Pembroke College Choir.
Lapwood has played the organ at New York’s St. Thomas Church, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. She routinely does tours throughout the UK and Europe and inaugurated the 2019 Bafta television awards on the organ at the Royal Festival Hall.
As part of the BBC Inspire Program, Lapwood conducted the BBC Singers. As a trustee for The Muze Trust, she frequently works in Zambia and has given choral workshops in Thailand, Perth, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Lusaka.
From 2018 to 2020, Lapwood served as the host of a weekly classical music program on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. She also contributes to BBC Radio 3 and has been on Record Review with Andrew McGregor. She goes by the hashtag #playlikeagirl and has been dubbed the “TikTok Organist” because to her success on social media.
