Hickey returned to Owen Sound after graduation to work at K106.5, first as a correspondent and eventually as an afternoon news presenter.
She moved on to The New VR in Barrie, Ontario, a year and a half later. She began as a production assistant and eventually became a writer for their six o’clock newscast. Simultaneously, she learned how to operate a camera and film news.
Hickey joined the Global Television Network in May 1999 as a photojournalist and news chopper reporter. She moved on to report on the entertainment beat for Global in 2001.
She directed the documentary special 10 Wired Days, which provided a behind-the-scenes look at the festival. She also covered the Grammy Countdown 2004 pre-show in New York City, the Rolling Stones benefit performance , the Molson Indy in Toronto, and a live pre-show for Canada’s Walk of Fame. She took over as host of ET Canada in September 2005.
