CNN’s chief political correspondent, Dana Bash, co-anchors the network’s Sunday morning newsmaker program State of the Union with Jake Tapper. Bash is stationed in Washington, D.C., where she often moderates CNN’s political town hall events and covers both campaigns and Congress. She also served as the moderator for the final Democratic presidential debate of the cycle, held in Washington, D.C., as well as CNN’s first debate of the 2020 election season in Detroit.

Prior to CNN being the first to predict Joe Biden as the winner, Bash also hosted special coverage on Election Night in America for the 2020 election. Bash has won the 2019 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism from the National Press Foundation.

The Being… series, which Bash debuted on CNN in 2021, expands on her Sunday morning news-making interviews. The program provides in-depth interviews with people who have an impact on American politics, policy, and society, allowing viewers to get a glimpse of the person behind the public persona. In 2017, Bash debuted her digital CNN series, Badass Women of Washington, which highlights women from all generations and backgrounds to demonstrate how they have broken down barriers on their route to the top.

In six of the network’s seven primetime presidential primary debates in 2016, Bash was a significant participant, asking questions of both candidates. In addition, Bash co-anchors all election night specials from the CNN Election Center set. Bash interviewed most of the candidates in-person as part of her coverage of the 2016 presidential elections, including Governors Jeb Bush and John Kasich, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Bernie Sanders, as well as Donald Trump.

Additionally, Bash is still essential to the network’s coverage of Capitol Hill. She did Speaker John Boehner’s farewell interview on his last day in office in 2015 and broke the news that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy would not be running for Speaker of the House live on television. Additionally, Bash oversaw the 11-hour testimony of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton before the House Select Committee on Benghazi. She provided reports from the RNC, the DNC, and CNN’s Election Center in Washington for the network’s midterm Election Night in America coverage.

The groundbreaking interview with former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (R-Ariz.) and her husband Mark Kelly in Arizona, as well as the first interviews with Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after each member’s Senate filibuster, are just a few of the significant interviews with lawmakers that Bash has secured.
