Gaby Wood is an English journalist and literary critic, she is known for her writing for publications such as The Observer, The Daily Telegraph, London Review of Books, Granta, and Vogue. She is also the literary director of the Booker Competition Foundation, having been appointed to succeed Ion Trewin and taking over at the end of the 2015 prize.

Wood received the Harper-Wood Studentship from St John’s College in 1999 while studying French literature at Cambridge University. She worked for The Observer as a journalist for seven years, serving as deputy literary editor, arts editor, editor of the review section, and New York correspondent.
In 2002, Wood published Living Dolls: A Magical History of the Quest for Mechanical Life (US edition: Edison’s Eve). It was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2003, and Miranda Seymour of The New York Times called it a “lively, stylish, and fascinating book, crammed with curious details and enticing anecdotes.”
Wood received a Cullman fellowship from the New York Public Library in 2007–2008. From January 2010 to 2015, Wood was The Daily Telegraph’s head of books, handling literature coverage, and he continues to write for the publication. She has also served as a judge for literary awards such as the Man Booker Prize in 2011, Granta magazine’s Best of Young British Novelists, the Jerwood Award, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize (2013), and the Bookseller Industry Awards, among others.
In April 2015, Wood was named literary director of the Booker Prize Foundation, just weeks after her predecessor, Ion Trewin, died (who had held the role since 2006, taking over from Martyn Goff, who ran the prize for three decades). Wood was named an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in July 2021.
