He collaborated with local journalists to cover human rights issues such as child labor in the mining industry, female genital mutilation, and the country’s general election while there.
He then worked as a freelance correspondent and producer for several years, filing news reports, live commentary, and mini-documentaries from all over the world, including Pakistan, Mali, Ghana, and Afghanistan His coverage of the 2017 Southern California wildfires earned him a 2018 National Press Club Award in the category of breaking news broadcast.
Brunhuber worked as a correspondent and anchor for CBC News for 13 years. Before moving to the network’s Los Angeles bureau in 2015, the Canadian was based in Toronto, where he hosted a number of CBC shows, including The National and CBC News Network on Saturdays. He began his career at CTV in both Ottawa and Halifax in 1997, where he anchored, produced, and reported on numerous breaking news stories, including the crash of Swissair Flight 111.
