John Harwood Biography
John Harwood is an American journalist, he is known for formerly working at CNN as a White House correspondent. Before joining the network he worked at CNBC as an editor-at-large and also worked as a contributor for The New York Times.

In 1991, Harwood started working as the Wall Street Journal’s White House correspondent, where he covered the George H. W. Bush presidency. Later, he worked as a Capitol Hill correspondent for the newspaper before being named political editor and chief political correspondent in 1997. In March 2006, Harwood was appointed chief Washington correspondent for CNBC.
Harwood frequently appears on NBC’s Meet the Press, MSNBC’s Morning Joe, and Washington Week, a public affairs program on PBS that was formerly anchored by Gwen Ifill. He appeared alongside co-author Gerald Seib in Tim Russert’s final recorded interview for Russert’s MSNBC interview show of the same name, which was scheduled to run the weekend of June 14, 2008, only hours before Russert passed away.
Following the hacking and publication of John Podesta’s private email account’s contents by the website WikiLeaks in October and November of 2016, Harwood came under even more fire. At the time, Podesta served as the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. A number of the emails, including one from May 2015 in which Harwood advised Podesta that then-candidate Ben Carson may spell “real trouble” for the Clinton campaign, came from Harwood, which some critics claimed suggested an inappropriate degree of closeness or collaboration between the two.
When Harwood stated that President Donald Trump was in “deep psychological distress” following his press conference after the U.S. Senate decided to exonerate him on both counts of impeachment, he garnered criticism from conservative critics on February 6, 2020. According to numerous accounts, Harwood left CNN on September 2, 2022, without warning, and as a result of his disagreement with the network’s new owners’ attempts to skew it to the right.
