Kari Lake is an American media personality, she is a former news anchor and a politician. She worked at KSAZ for 22 years and later stepped down for her bid for the Arizona Governor.

Lake returned to Arizona in 1999 and started working as an evening anchor for KSAZ-TV (Fox 10 Phoenix). Lake interviewed President Barack Obama in 2016 and President Donald Trump in 2020 while working at KSAZ.
After leaving her job as a local TV anchor, Lake became a leading pro-Trump politician in Arizona over the course of a few years. During her final years in the media, she shared false and unverified information on social media, resulting in criticism and a reputation as a provocateur.
In 2018, she opposed the Red for Ed movement, which sought more funding for education through strikes and protests, claiming it was a “big push to legalize pot”; she later apologized for the statement and, according to the station’s regional human resources director, took an unexpected month-long leave from the station.
Lake was caught on “hot mic” footage in July 2019 promoting her account on the web platform Parler. In April 2020, she spread misinformation about COVID-19 on Twitter and Facebook. Lake’s statements and actions polarized colleagues during her final years at the station.
She announced her departure from KSAZ in March 2021, one day after FTVLive, a television news industry website, published a video clip of Lake at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, questioning whether Lake was there as a journalist or as a member of a movement. She announced her candidacy for governor in June 2021.

Lake, former real estate developer and Arizona Board of Regents member Karrin Taylor Robson, Paola Tulliani Zen, and Scott Neely ran for the Republican nomination. Lake and Robson were the front-runners, with the most votes and the most money raised.
