The Big Apple returns in “New York State of Mind”
COVID’s various variants are still casting an ominous shadow over the nation’s recovery, but that light at the end of the tunnel you see just might be the lights of Broadway. It was unprecedented, like most things in the last 18 months or so. When Broadway went dark, the whole of New York City dimmed, too.

Remembering John Lewis, a tenacious fighter who got into “good trouble”
“How long can we be patient?” John Lewis said at the March on Washington, August 28, 1963. “We want our freedom, and we want it now.”He was, until the end, an optimist. In 2015 on “Face the Nation” he said, “When people tell me, ‘Nothing has changed,’ I just feel like saying, ‘Come and walk in my shoes. I will show you.”But the death of George Floyd was a deadly reminder that the work he dedicated his life to wasn’t over.

But as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci had no choice. “No one is denying the fact that we are going through a very, very difficult time right now,” he told the nation. His visibility has made him vulnerable. There are those who disagree with his often-blunt realism about the disease, so much so the government has actually increased security around him.
