Brooks joined NBC5 in 1998 as a weekend anchor from Atlanta, where she served as an anchor. Her career has spanned over several regions and market sizes in the country. Which began at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in Sarasota. There she learned the advertising side of journalism in a management training program for the New York Times Newspaper Group.
Her first job was in broadcasting an entry-level position in radio at WGST, an Atlanta news talk station, there she was exposed to the long hours, hard work, and adrenaline rushes of newsgathering. This encounter solidified her ambition to work as a journalist, she says.
Her first television assignment she was sent to the Mississippi Delta, one of the poorest parts in the country. Brooks career took her all over the country, and stopped in Jacksonville, Florida, St. Louis, Missouri, Atlanta, Georgia, and Chicago.
She’s covered a wide range of topics, from significant natural disasters, politics, crime and the courts, health, consumer issues, two Olympic Games, and much more.
