He joined CBS News in 1993 to co-anchor the overnight edition of Up to the Minute, conducting interviews with a range of newsmakers and figures. Roberts co-anchored CBS Morning News from 1995 to 1996.
Roberts has worked for CBS since 1998 and most recently served as a correspondent for 48 Hours. He has won two Emmy awards, as well as the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Award. His coverage of the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta and the bombing that took place during the competition earned him his first Emmy.
His Emmy-winning 2013 coverage on the manhunt and capture of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects set him apart from the competition. Roberts also contributed to the team’s coverage of the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, which brought CBS News a 2014 DuPont-Columbia Prize.
He worked as a correspondent for CBS News’s CBS Sunday Morning, CBS This Morning, and CBS Evening News. Roberts has filled in as an anchor for the network’s weekend versions of CBS Evening News as well as an alternative news reader for CBS This Morning. Hard Evidence, a true crime program, was also hosted by him.
Roberts joined NBC Universal in 2017 and has since served as a special correspondent for Dateline on NBC. He serves as the series’ host on Oxygen’s Killer Motive.
