Larry Wheels Career
At the age of 14, Wheels began lifting weights. Williams began with a broomstick and two cinder blocks, one at either end of the broomstick.
He did this for a year in the physical locations he occupied, he appeared to be growing stronger and more capable. His only teachers were concrete, sticks, and a spinning wheel, as he had virtually dropped out of school by the eighth grade.
Wheels wanted to join a gym when he was 15 years old, but he was denied. Gyms on Saint Martin required a minimum age of 16 to enter. His mother, who makes ends meet as a waitress, was likewise eager for a change. Despite the fact that they had been reunited for three years, the Caribbean was still not their home.
They returned to the Bronx as a group. Wheels began working at a restaurant to pay for his gym membership as soon as he signed up. After a year of lifting weights, he realized two things: one, he was stronger than any mature guy in his gym, and second, this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
He competed in his first RPS Powerlifting meet when he was 18 years old. While weighing 247 pounds, a 247-pound contender won the 275-pound weight class. Since then, he’s been winning and breaking records. In November 2017, he established a raw combined world record of 2,275 pounds, almost the weight of two polar bears.
