Scott Mclean is a well-known international correspondent based in London. Before he joined CNN, McLean was a reporter and anchor at CTV News. He discussed the 2016 earthquake in central Italy that had a magnitude of 6.2, President Obama’s historic visit to Cuba, and Fidel Castro’s passing a few months later.
McLean contributed to CNN’s comprehensive coverage of Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination hearing in 2018. He spent weeks covering the destructive Carr, Camp, and Woolsey fires in California and nearly a month on the main island of Hawaii during the Kilauea volcanic eruption. While there, he had to repeatedly duck for cover while speaking with a man who was protecting his friend’s property from a nearby fissure’s almost continual eruption of “lava bombs.” Days later, when he was struck by a piece of flying lava, that man became the only casualty of the eruption.
The only reporter to speak with him prior to being struck was McLean. During CNN’s exclusive coverage of the 2019 UK General Election, McLean most recently covered the catastrophic floods in Venice and traveled to Scotland to report on the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party.
McLean worked as a reporter and anchor for CTV News in Calgary, Alberta, before joining CNN. There, his investigative reporting sparked significant policy reforms at the Calgary Police Department and a formal investigation of the former chief.
Prior to that, he worked as an anchor and reporter for Global News in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Vancouver, British Columbia, where he produced a thorough investigation into the jail system in Saskatchewan that sparked discussion in the provincial legislature and covered the 2012 US Election from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
